Back pain is often explained as a mechanical problem.

You may be told that a muscle has tightened, a disc has degenerated, or your posture needs correcting.

While structural factors certainly matter, they do not always explain why pain appears during stressful periods, why it fluctuates without obvious physical cause, or why it persists after tissues have healed.
