Returning to exercise after back pain can feel intimidating.

Even when the worst of the pain has eased, many people remain fearful of bending, lifting, running, or exercising normally again. You may worry that one wrong movement could “throw your back out” or cause reinjury. In some cases, the fear of pain becomes almost as limiting as the pain itself.

This fear is understandable. Back pain can be physically exhausting and emotionally draining. After weeks, months, or even years of discomfort, your nervous system often becomes highly protective.
